An innovative partnership, beyond sport.

A partner since 2014, Helvetia Environment has become a major partner of the Servette Rugby Club of Geneva for a period of three years. In addition to its financial support, the company will accompany the sports association in its objective of carbon neutrality and will assist players in their extra-sporting careers and their retraining.

Making the SRC the 1st "zero carbon" rugby club in Switzerland

As a partner since 2014, Helvetia Environment is strengthening its support and becoming a major partner of the Servette Rugby Club of Geneva (SRC). The leading waste management company in Switzerland is consolidating its commitment to the club's sports project for the senior team, the relief and the academy that trains young players: it will now accompany the SRC in its transition towards a goal of social responsibility and its desire to become the first "zero-carbon" rugby club in Switzerland. In addition to financial support, the partnership includes awareness-raising activities on waste sorting and recycling, aimed at fans and spectators, players and sports and administrative staff. Alain Studer, President of the SRC since 1st September 2020, is relying on Helvetia Environment’s expertise to help him change the club's practices and define actions to achieve this ambitious goal.

Double contract: in the field and in the company

In order to welcome new sporting talent under the best conditions, Servette Rugby Club and Helvetia Environment have designed an innovative partnership that will enable three top-level players to join one of the group's subsidiaries, on the fringes of its sporting activities. Transvoirie (collection and services), Sogetri (waste recycling and recovery) and Leman Bio Énergie (biofuel production) offer numerous opportunities for sportsmen and women who wish to develop their professional skills. For each year of the partnership, Helvetia Environment has therefore undertaken to offer a position within one of its subsidiaries to a player who will reinforce the SRC's first team. The club can therefore rely on its partner to offer its players support in their sporting and social integration.

Transition to social responsibility at Servette Rugby Club

Rugby is known to convey strong values among teams and fans of the sport. The World Rugby Federation has defined integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect as characteristics specific to rugby. The SRC now wishes to incorporate these values into a general approach to sustainable sport and is counting on the experience of its partner Helvetia Environment, which has already implemented this approach within its subsidiaries since 2014.

Together, the partners have defined four areas of focus to initiate this approach:

  1. To be part of a social approach through the education and training of young people and the organization of a Clean-up Day under the aegis of the SRC.

  2. Integrate stakeholders in the CSR approach during an annual meeting to present actions and results and a hackathon to initiate new projects.

  3. Recycling 100% of the waste emitted at the stadium during matches.

  4. Reduce and control the carbon footprint of the SRC by using electric vehicles in particular.

For Vincent Chapel, President of Helvetia Environment
"In addition to the sporting aspect, which is very close to our hearts, Helvetia Environment will be able to promote and share its expertise in the field of waste management and its experience in promoting sorting and recycling. This partnership with Servette Rugby Club is therefore a win-win exchange that goes beyond the usual framework of a partnership contract. Welcoming players into the group will also be an enriching experience that will strengthen our project of a company involved in the life of the City."
